Australia Guide
Australia is known for its vast landscapes and beaches as well as the outback and bush. It is the 6th largest country in the world and is bordered by the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean. The most populated areas are on the coast in cities such as Perth and Sydney or Melbourne and Brisbane. Many visitors travel to Australia to see family and friends or for beach holidays and surfing and diving. It is also an ideal place for a road trip with car hire Australia and adventure sports.
New South Wales is probably the most visited area - due to being home to Sydney, Australia’s largest city and the iconic opera house and harbour bridge. The state has many beachside communities and the beautiful Blue Mountains. The landscape then changes to plains and agricultural land to eventually desert. The capital city Canberra, can be found in Australian Capital Territory and is home to parliament and governmental buildings. In the Northern Territory, you will find the red desert of Uluru and Alice Springs as well as the tropics of Darwin and the Kakadu National Park. Queensland is famous for its sunny weather and holidays to the Gold Coast and the city of Brisbane are very popular. Here you will also find the Great Barrier Reef and the paradise that is the Whitsunday Islands. Inland the landscape turns to outback and there are many national parks to visit, including Daintree National Park, which is mostly tropical rainforest.
In Southern Australia, you can visit the city of Adelaide and the vineyards of the Barossa Valley. Across the Bass Strait is the island of Tasmania and its capital Hobart – it is a wilderness of sorts with beaches and the rugged Cradle Mountain. The smallest state of Victoria is more accessible than most states and has a good road network. You will find great surf beaches and the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne, famous for sport and food as well as culture. National parks and farmland stretch inland, away from the coast.
Western Australia is the largest state with the city of Perth to its south and the scenic wine growing region of Margaret River. Stretching to the north, you will find the beaches of Broome and the tropics. Inland, there are national parks to explore and you will see rural towns and mining communities.
