Athens is the capital of Greece and seen to be the birthplace of western civilisation. It is famous for the Acropolis and the Parthenon as well as the ancient agora and odeons. To find out more about the ancient history of Athens, you can visit the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis Museum. Visit Syntagma Square and see the changing of the guards at the Old Palace. Take a walk around the old streets of Plaka and find traditional cafes and souvenir shops or head for the modern shopping district of Kolonaki. Athens International Airport is 27km from the city and the journey takes around 30 minutes. In your car hire Athens Airport take the route 64 and Attika Odos from central Athens.

Short term car parks P1 and P2 are opposite the main terminal and have a total of 1357 spaces. Long term parking is available at P3 with 5802 spaces and there is a shuttle bus service to the terminal. A new multi-storey car park adds another 3800 spaces for short or long stay parking.

Over 65 airlines use Athens International Airport and you can fly to destinations worldwide. Some flights are on a seasonal basis although most are year round and operated by scheduled airlines. The airport has become more popular in recent years, due to being a gateway to Asia and the Middle East.
