Crete is the largest of all the Greek Islands and is in the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its contrasting landscapes and rich history. Heraklion is the capital city of Crete and most famous for the Minoan Palace of Knossos as well as its museums and city walls. Also in the city, look out for the Basilica of St Mark and the venetian fortress of Koules.
