Car Hire Castellon

Castellon Guide

Castellon has a lot for the visitor to see and much of it is in the unusual buildings. The city walls were destroyed centuries ago and the stones used for more buildings but the cathedral exists in a new form following destruction during the civil war. The 15th century bell tower of the cathedral which stands separate to the building itself is the icon of the town and you get a good view of Castellon from the top. Out of the city, the Desert of the Palms mountain range is a great place to explore by hire car for its unusual scenery and terrain.

Castellon Directions

To get to Castellon from Valencia Airport by hire car, take the A7 followed by the AP7 northeast and you’ll arrive at your destination in around 55 minutes.

Castellon Parking

Valencia Airport is strange in having many fewer spaces for long term parking than for short term. There are just over 220 spaces in the long term car park whilst there are nearly 1,300 in the short term car park. Both car parks are within minutes of the terminal building.

Castellon Flight Information

Valencia Airport is a very busy one and there are plenty of seasonal charter and year round scheduled flights from UK international airports.

Castellon is an hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and is in the Central European Time Zone (GMT+1)

Castellon Info

Castellon is a wonderful coastal town which has a long and varied history. Officially founded in 1233 at a location on the slopes of the mountain range north of present day Castellon, the city was moved piece by piece to the coast over the winter of 1251 to 1252. Many of its architectural glories were destroyed in the 19th century race for growth but there’s still plenty to see in and around the town.

Castellon Trivia:
  • A mountain range known as the Desert of Palms begins to the north of the town
  • The town was founded in the 13th century by James I and you’ll find many buildings and streets named in honour of him
  • The cathedral was destroyed on the orders of the council in the Spanish Civil war but rebuilt shortly after
  • The golfer Sergio Garcia was born in Castellon
