Often overlooked for the beaches of Costa Brava and the cosmopolitan Barcelona, Girona is worthy of a visit itself. Wander around the narrow streets of the old city and climb up to the city walls to see great views. Here you can also see the ancient arab baths or ‘Banys Arabs’ and the old Jewish Quarter. Look out for St Mary’s Cathedral, a fine example of Spanish gothic architecture. Finally stroll along the ‘Rambla’ that runs next to the river, here you will find lots of nice cafes for lunch and stop to admire the colourful houses that line the riverside.
