Llanes Guide

If you’re visiting Llanes then for much of the year you can expect a quiet relaxing stay. Come though during the fiestas and the whole atmosphere of the town changes from a sleepy fishing village to a riotous celebration. The main fiestas start at the end of July and continue until September making summer a great time to visit. Outside of the fiesta time, the mountains are a great attraction and being made of limestone, they contain several big and anthropologically important caves, especially those at Cueva Bolado.

Llanes is primarily a fishing port on the north coast of Spain but it has a growing tourism industry. It’s small, having a population of only 4,000 but is historically important in the region. Built on a plain it is backed by a limestone ridge which conceals the much higher Sierra del Cuera behind it. There are several annual festivals based on religion and local folklore which bring the town to life and attract thousands of visitors.
