Pietermaritzburg Airport Guide
Pietermaritzburg Airport is tiny but has many of the facilities you might need for a short stay on your way to or from the city. There’s a small kiosk selling packaged snacks and drinks although it also has a coffee machine! You can buy newspapers and choose from a small selection of books. There are no banking facilities though so you’ll have to wait until you get into the city before getting currency.
Pietermaritzburg Airport Directions
Turn right onto Oribi Road when you exit the airport and follow this north until it becomes King Edward Avenue. The crossroads with Durban Road is part of the city centre.
Pietermaritzburg Airport Parking
Pietermaritzburg Airport is very small with only one route so it doesn’t need or have much parking. Still, there is plenty to deal with the demand but you’ll find it’s quite informal. You’ll still have to pay but the prices aren’t anything like what you’d expect at the bigger airports.
Pietermaritzburg Airport Flight InformationPietermaritzburg Airport is very small and has only one flight – from Johannesburg. An alternative is to fly into Durban Airport. Even there it’s mostly domestic flights but travellers from Europe can connect in Dubai to Durban. From the airport it’s around fifty miles to Pietermaritzburg, a journey most easily completed in a hire car collected from the airport.
Hotels Near Pietermaritzburg Airport
We like the Protea Hotel Imperial where for £52 a night you can stay in comfortable modern rooms in a stylish hotel. Elsewhere the Golden Horse Casino Hotel is even more sumptuous and has the benefit of its own casino as part of the complex. There you can expect to pay around £90 a night.
