El Hierro Airport Guide
El Hierro appeals most to those who want to get away from it all. It’s not blessed with beaches like the other Canary Islands but instead has lush vegetation, a result of its westerly location, and a rugged mountainous terrain great for walking and mountain biking. The coastline is perfect for diving as the biosphere status means the aquatic life is left in peace. Hotels and other accommodation there are quite basic in general but, because of its isolation, you’ll find a genuine and hearty welcome from the islanders.
El Hierro Airport Directions
Found nine kilometres northeast of Valverde, you can only get to El Hierro’s Airport by connecting from Gran Canaria or from Tenerife North Airports. A narrow road takes you from the airport to join the main HI-2 road that leads into Valverde.
El Hierro Airport Parking
The parking at El Hierro Airport is conveniently found only metres from the terminal. It has 155 spaces including a single disabled bay.
El Hierro Airport Flight InformationFor UK travellers it’s best to fly into Gran Canaria as Tenerife North is more of a regional airport and has no flights from the UK. Both easyJet and Ryanair fly into Gran Canaria so expect reasonably priced flights.
Hotels Near El Hierro Airport
Most of the hotels on El Hierro are small as the island is reasonably undeveloped. For good accommodation you can choose the Casa Grande, an early 20th century mansion in its own grounds or the Casa Rural Valdevacas which is a simple guest house.
