Gijon Guide
When the weather is good, it’s time to head to some of Gijon’s beaches with San Lorenzo and Arbeyal being the best. If the weather’s not too good then the city has fantastic Roman ruins in the Campa de Torres. This is one of the earliest Roman and pre-Roman sites in Western Europe dating back to the 4th century BC. For more archaeology, visit the restored bath complex at Campa Valdes. For those interested in steam engines, Asturias, nearby, has a small railway museum documenting the history of Spanish railways. Out of the city you’ll find the Santa Catalina Highlands, an area of mountain peaks which once was the location for a military installation that looks out over the city and the bay.
