Granada Airport Guide

The Alhambra is the must see in Granada and is split into various aspects. There’s the 13th century palace built within the original fortified walls and the Generalife, the fabulous gardens that surround it. The Alcazaba is the oldest part of the Alhambra and is now simply a ruined fortification at the highest point. Complementing the Alhambra is the Albayzin, a Muslim neighbourhood which is a great place for some quiet contemplation whilst wandering the ancient streets.

Granada Airport Directions

Granada’s airport is located 16 km west of the city and to get to the city by hire car you should follow the A92 which becomes the city’s northern ring road then use the E902 to drop down into the city.

Granada Airport Parking

845 car parking spaces await you at Granada Airport. Careful design means that you have only a short walk from the car park to the terminal and if you have mobility issues then there are 15 disabled spaces there too.

Granada Airport Flight Information

With the exception of a flight from Paris Orly, all flights to Granada are internal flights. This means that unless you want to fly to Malaga from the UK and face a long drive, you’ll have to make a connection at Madrid, Barcelona or Paris. With cheap flights available to all of these from the UK, it might be a better option.

Hotels Near Granada Airport

For a luxury and contemporary hotel try the Macia Real de la Alhambra which has an understated elegance and superb service. Elsewhere less wealthy travellers may want to try the Apartamentos Turisticos San Matias which are still clean and comfortable but less than half the price.

Granada Time Zone

Granada is one hour ahead of the UK’s Greenwich Mean Time and is part of the Central European Time Zone (GMT+1)

Granada Info

Granada has been important as a city for millennia and as such has a wealth of world class historical and archaeological attractions. The city is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and as well as enjoying warm winter sunshine, visitors can ski within an hour of the city. The prime attraction of the city is the Alhambra Palace, built by the Moors from the 11th to the 13th century.

Granada Trivia:
  • Granada is the home of one of the world’s most beautiful palaces – the Alhambra
  • As well as having a hot summer climate, Granada is very close to the Sierra Nevada ski resort
  • The origins of Granada date back some 2,800 years
  • Rather bizarrely, Granada is twinned with a suburb of Nottingham called Sneinton
