Toledo Guide
Toledo is recommended as a day trip from Madrid but also deserves a stay there in its own right. A walled city, some of the Roman remains including the circus, are found outside the walls whilst inside you shouldn’t miss the Alcazar on top of its highest hill or the 13th century cathedral. In the old part of the city you can explore the Jewish and Muslim quarters, marvelling at the different architectural styles including that of the Mezquita Cristo de la Luz, a former mosque now converted to a church. You also need to visit the El Greco Museum to learn about the master’s life and see some of his most important works.
Toledo Directions
Toledo is around an hour away from Madrid and the best route to take in a hire car is along the A42 southwest to Toledo. This road goes all the way between the two cities and is the fastest and most direct route.

Hotels Near Toledo Airport
Toledo has some great value hotels with many of the four star examples starting at under 50 euros a night. We like the Kris Domenico for its stately elegance and great views out over the city or the Sercotel Pintor El Greco, set in a renovated bakery in the heart of the Jewish quarter of the city.
