Torrevieja Guide
Torrevieja is another of the Costa holiday resorts and might be thought of in the same vein but it has much to recommend it other than the beach. There are a number of pretty churches one of which; The Church of the Immaculate Conception, was built using some of the stones from the old tower. Elsewhere the Sea and Salt Museum is worth an hour or two of your time as there you can find out the history of the resort before tourism. Spend some time too at the Molino del Agua, a natural park based around one of Torrevieja’s salt lakes.

Torrevieja Info
Torrevieja’s economy once rested on the salt that was mined nearby or collected from the two salt lakes when they dried up in summer. Before that, all that marked the area was an old watch tower built in the days of the Arab raids along the coast. Since the 1960s, Torrevieja has instead mined the boom in cheap tourism and as a result now has a large and thriving British expat community. It has a wide seafront promenade that passes many of the hotels but is also known for its 19th century architecture in the old town.

-
So many expats from the north of the UK live in Torrevieja that it’s now got the nickname of the ‘Costa del Yorkshire’
