Islip Airport Guide
Islip is full of history being one of the early settlements in New York State. There are many historic buildings in and around the town including Sagtikos Manor which was used by the British Army in the war of independence as a headquarters. Today visitors can visit it, set up as it was in revolutionary days and see the staff dressed in period costume acting out the daily lives of the old day’s inhabitants.
Elsewhere around the town the wild coastline is a dramatic attraction and from the west of the town you can look across to the lights and smoke of the big city. Boat trips are often available for you to see the area from the water and on hot summer days they can be a refreshing way of sightseeing.
Islip Airport Directions
Despite being some distance from JFK airport, the route there is surprisingly easy. Just follow the Southern State Parkway east from the airport exit and you’ll be in Islip in under an hour. JFK is a much better bet for an arrival point as it takes flights from all over America and Europe including several flights from the UK.

Islip Info
Islip is often described as New York’s bedroom and is a major commuter centre for the Big Apple. The town was founded nearly 350 years ago when Matthias Nicoll bought a huge amount of land east of New York from the local Native American tribe. It developed by servicing the whaling boats that plied the estuary but when the whaling industry slowed, it looked to its natural delights to attract tourists, especially weekenders from New York.
