Rutland Airport Guide

Rutland has a beautiful and historic Georgian downtown that is protected by the National Register. There, you can idle whilst marvelling at the red brick facades or visit the town museum to see how it developed. Just outside the town are the Rutland Falls where the city first began. There’s a massive railroad bridge above them and the site is littered with slabs of the marble for which the city was renowned. Skiing is popular in winter with Pico Mountain being the main resort nearby. In September, take some time to see the Vermont State Fair held on the city’s racetrack.

Rutland Airport Directions

Route 7 travels north from the airport into Rutland or you could take route 103 from the eastern side of the airport which joins route 7. The journey time is around fifteen minutes.

Rutland Airport Parking

Parking at Rutland is compact and easy to understand. Short and long term are on the same facility with rates easing after the first 24 hour period.

Rutland Airport Flight Information

Only a single route is served by Rutland Regional Airport and that’s to and from Boston. This still means though that it’s easy to get to Rutland from Europe and the UK as Boston is served by routes from the UK and several European airports.

Rutland Info

Rutland is a very small city located in Rutland County Vermont. It began as a small village on Otter Creek but with the discovery of large high quality marble deposits, timed perfectly with the closure of some of Carrara’s quarries in Italy, the town grew dramatically to become one of the world’s top marble producers. Sadly in Rutland too, stocks dwindled and the quarries closed in the 1980s bringing high unemployment which only slowly began to abate with new industries taking their place. Today, it’s close to the popular ski resorts of Vermont and is often used as a base for the slopes.

Rutland Trivia:
  • Despite having the population of only a small town, Rutland is the third biggest city in Vermont
  • Its downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Rutland began as Mill Village, founded in 1812 on Otter Creek
  • The town became one of the world’s leading marble producers
