Although many people automatically think of England when the UK is mentioned, it also includes, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, giving it so many different aspects. Northern Ireland is now a destination in it's own right and it's once divided capital Belfast is a thriving city since the end of the troubles. The scenery outside the city is spectacular in places, particularly at the Giants Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth a visit.
Scotland also has spectacular scenery, with it's Cairngorm mountains – Aviemore is an excellent ski resort in the winter months and it's deep lochs, including, of course Loch Ness with it's famous monster. The Western Isles are wild and rugged, but provide a wonderful “away from it all” experience with your car hire UK. The cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are in direct contrast to the countryside, Glasgow is the site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the city is pulling out all the stops to make sure it is a worthy holder of the event. Edinburgh with it's castle and Royal Mile is the most popular tourist destination in Scotland. Steeped in history, this ancient capital has plenty for visitors to see and do.
Wales with it's own language is really a country of it's own, much of it is wild and quite barren, particularly in the area around the Brecon Beacons. However there are seaside towns along the coast from Llandudno in the north to Abersoch and Barry further south. Caernarvon Castle in north west Wales was where Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales in 1969 and it is a major attraction. Cardiff, as the capital of the principality is a multi-cultural city and was designated City of Sport in 2009. It has world class facilities for both football and rugby at the Millenium Stadium and an International Sports Village and White Water Centre, so there is something for every sportsperson or fan.
England, of course the largest country of the UK also has something for everyone, from it's Lake District giving peace and tranquility, to bustling cities such as Manchester and London. London is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and there is every reason for that for example the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament - the list is endless, plus of course the theatres and concerts for nightlife. For families wanting a break there are seaside resorts all around the coast. Blackpool with it's tower and Pleasure Beach and Brighton with it's marina and Royal Pavillion both offer excellent holiday facilities.
